CALUM MacLean may have found the final piece in his Fort William jigsaw, someone with attacking flair to replace James Mackay.

Recruiting a player dangerous in the final third has been top of MacLean’s shopping list since winger Mackay departed for champions Brora Rangers last month, and the Fort boss told the LN he’s set to run the rule over a forward who comes strongly recommended.

He didn’t want to name any names but said: "We’ve got another one coming in who’s supposed to be very good.

"I’ve heard a lot of good things about him, so hopefully he could be the final piece in the jigsaw."

Fort were made to work hard for the victory in their friendly encounter with a Lochaber Welfare select last Wednesday.

The Claggan Park side ran out 5-3 victors, with Iain MacLennan and Michael Ellis on the scoresheet, while one trialist netted a double and another rounded off the scoring for the home side.

MacLean is yet to make any decisions on trialists in that game and the defeat to Caley Thistle under-20s, but insists he and assistant Ally Ewen are likely to select players they want to sign up shortly after their friendly against Clach at Grant Street this Friday.

He said: "There are some that we’re keen to sign, but we haven’t made any decisions yet, we’ll probably start picking the ones we want after the Clach game.

"It’s another chance to see them and in a competitive game.

"We should have everyone available, although we’re getting 18-20 players to games at the moment which can be a bit disruptive to the team when we’re trying to get everyone a game and chop and change things. We’ll probably take 14 to Inverness."

THERE were only two Marine Harvest Welfare Football matches at the weekend due to weather hitting fixtures and players attending T in the Park.

Ballachulish moved to within three points of Lundavra thanks to a 4-0 home win over them, while Inverlochy defeated basement side Nevis Range 5-4 in a thriller.
