Stoppage victory in Inverness was a statement for Dingwall boxer Ben Bartlett

BEN Bartlett says he made a statement with his second round stoppage win in his previous fight showing he remains on course to win a title by the end of the year.
The Dingwall fighter proved he could step up a level when he wasted no time in defeating Gary McGuire at Highland Skirmish in Inverness.
Bartlett wasted no time in claiming his victory after the referee waved the contest over after deciding his Glaswegian opponent had taken too much punishment from the 22-year-old who was in ruthless form.
“That performance was a real statement of what I am willing to do at welterweight in Scotland,” says Bartlett.
“I am 100 per cent chasing a title by the end of the year.
“I am only 22, so there is plenty of time and I had only 10 amateur fight, but I feel I am making all the correct steps to getting towards a title. I am going to make a statement in every fight I have from now on.”
Bartlett said his previous fight couldn’t have gone much better for him.
“I knew the game plan as soon as I walked into the place. I was focussed on the job and I knew the kind of boxer he was.
“At the end of the second round, the referee waved the fight off so I couldn’t have asked for a better result.”
Bartlett made the move from super lightweight to welterweight to make his competitive debut fighting at that division and says he feels more comfortable.
“I am more suited at welterweight and I feel stronger and i’m looking forward to getting more fights under my belt.”
His next fight is coming in three weeks time as Bartlett is preparing for his next bout in the Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen which will be broadcast live on Fight Zone.
His opponent has not been confirmed yet, but Bartlett says he will be ready regardless of who he faces in the ring.
He said: “This is a big platform for me to show more people what I am about.”
