An Inverness squash player has become Scottish Under-23 champion.

Alasdair Prott was the top seed going into the competition, being held at the Scottish Squash Rackets Club in Glasgow, but with a fiercely competitive field that was no guarantee of success.

He started the competition well with an 11–2, 11–2, 11–2 victory over James Newman in the opening round, and followed that up with a similarly strong show of 11–4, 11–5, 11–0 against Finlay Halton in the quarter finals.

With the top seeds all progressing as expected, though, it would be a much tighter affair against fourth seed Kyle Penman in the semi finals.

Prott would still come through unscathed, but he had to work much harder for a straight sets win this time around, eventually securing the 11–7, 11–9, 11–5 result.

The final would see the top two ranked players go head-to-head, as Prott took on John Meehan.

The 21-year-old Inverness Tennis and Squash Club member would drop a set for the first time, but that was not enough to derail his charge to the title as Prott celebrated an 11–4, 11–9, 8–11, 11–5 triumph.

Another Inverness player in action was Natalie Main, who finished seventh in the women's draw.
