A vote on introducing video assistant referees into the Scottish Premiership will be held later this month, the SPFL has confirmed.

There have long been rumours that VAR would be brought to the table as an option, and a decision will be made on April 19.

A resolution has already been circulated to all 42 clubs, who will be asked to vote on its introduction at the SPFL General Meeting.

For the resolution to pass, three quarters of Premiership clubs, three quarters of Championship clubs and three quarters of League One and Two combined must vote in favour.

Should clubs vote to implement VAR, the SPFL hope it will be implemented following the conclusion of the Qatar World Cup, which will take place between November 21 and December 18.

Highland News and Media's sports podcast, Balls & Whistles, discussed VAR in March of last year. Listen to that episode below.
