South African adventure for rugby prospect

A Highland teenager is set to follow in the footsteps of some of the biggest names in Scottish rugby when he jets out to South Africa this weekend.

Jacob Henry, who played for both Ross Sutherland and Highland Rugby Club but now plies his trade for Melrose while he studies in Edinburgh, has secured one of three places on the John Macphail scholarship at Stellenbosch University.

The 18-year-old winger admitted he is over the moon to have been given the opportunity – and says he can’t wait to fly out to South Africa tomorrow.

“It’s a brilliant opportunity for me,” he said.
