It was more of a Grand International than a Grand National for Alex Sutherland at Aintree racecourse on Saturday.
The 72-year-old Inverness Harrier took second place in the 70-74 category at the British and Irish Veterans’ Cross Country Championships.
Sutherland, who is a regular at this international, completed the 6k course in 25:17 to become the top Scottish finisher in that age category, 12 seconds adrift of the English winner. He also led the Scottish squad to team silver.
