SHINTY: Greg Matheson rescues Lovat to salvage point against Skye

GREG Matheson was the hero for Lovat as he scored twice to pull his team from behind to rescue a point against Skye in a 2-2 draw at Portree.

James Pringle put Skye in front after 25 minutes before Matheson equalised two minutes before half time.

But Skye went in front again through Ross Gordon in the 72nd minute, only for Matheson to level four minutes later as both teams settled for a point.

It has been a disappointing start to the campaign for Lovat, who find themselves in seventh place, with only two wins from seven games.

Meanwhile, Newtonmore remain top of the Premiership after a narrow 1-0 win over fourth place Beauly at The Eilean.

Struan Ross’ strike in the sixth minute proved to be the winner for Newtonmore to keep them at the summit.

Champions Kingussie kept up the pressure, two points behind in second place with a 2-0 win over Kyles Athletic.

Ruaridh Anderson and Thomas Borthwick did the damage in the first half to give them the win.

Caberfeidh ended their poor run of results in emphatic fashion when they thrashed bottom of the table Glasgow Mid-Argyll 9-1 at Castle Leod to move third.

But the Strathpeffer outfit found themselves behind in less than 60 seconds when Cailean Macleod put GMA in front.

But Cabers ran riot with Craig Morrison finding the net seven times to bring his total for the season to 19.

Kevin Bartlett and Gavin McLauchin also found the net for Caberfeidh.

Oban Camanachd and Kinlochshiel are fifth and sixth respectively after their 1-1 draw at Mossfield Park.

Jordan Fraser put Kinlochshiel in front in the first half with Matthew Sloss levelling for Oban after the break.

In the National Division, Glenurquhart suffered injury-time heartbreak when a late equaliser gave Kilmallie a point in a 3-3 draw at Caol.

Daniel Maclean and Ryan Porter gave Glenurquhart a 2-0 lead in the first half.

But Kilmallie equalised with second half goals from Martin Stewart.

Andrew Corrigan put Glenurquhart back in front with 20 minutes remaining, but Seumas Macfarlane levelled in injury time to share the points.

Strathglass remain bottom losing 2-0 to Inveraray and are three points adrift from Oban Celtic in seventh.

Col Glen picked up a shock 3-2 victory at Fort William to leapfrog them into fifth.

In the only game in North One, Beauly held Kingussie to a 2-2 draw at The Dell. In North Two, Inverness lost 3-2 to Lewis.

In the Strathdearn Cup third round, Lochcarron beat Skye 3-2, Kinlochshiel beat Aberdeen University 7-1 and Newtonmore won 5-0 at Lovat.
