INVERNESS will look to stay in pole position in the North Division One title race when they head to Kinlochshiel on Saturday.

But they know they require favours from elsewhere to stop Newtonmore Reserves overtaking them and winning the championship at the end of the season.

Inverness remain top of North Division One thanks to 4-0 win over Caberfeidh Reserves at Bught Park last weekend.

Steven Bellshaw scored twice with Lorn Hughes and Ewan Neilson also finding the net in a comfortable victory.

However, Newtomore Reserves are only one point behind with two games in hand.

They claimed victory in arguably their hardest match remaining this season when they won 4-1 at Glengarry last week.

Craig Macleod gave Newtonmore the lead after 12 minutes with Glen MacKintosh levelling four minutes after the break.

Nick Dalgety pulled one back for Glengarry in the 56th minute.

But Mackintosh scored twice within two minutes after the hour mark to secure Newtonmore victory and almost rule Glengarry out of the title race.

Inverness head to Kinlochshiel tomorrow before facing Fort William at Bught Park on the final day of the season on October 29.

Newtonmore could need three victories from their final four matches against Caberfeidh, Glenurquhart, Lochcarron and Lovat, with Inverness looking for two of those teams to cause an upset which could clinch them the title.

If Inverness win the title, they will face South Division One champions Col Glen in a play-off for a place in the National Division next season.

Col Glen won the South Division One title last week with a 10-0 win over Ballachulish.

However, Col Glen will receive automatic promotion if Newtonmore win the title as reserve teams can’t be promoted from regional leagues.
