CAPTAIN David Maclean is delighted with how Beauly have adapted to the top flight after a good start to their debut season in the Premiership.

But he says the team knows a lot of hard work is still required to ensure they are not involved in a fight against relegation at the end of the season.

Beauly, who are competing in the Premiership for the first time in their history, are in third place in the table, with three wins from their four games so far.

They are four points behind leaders Newtonmore and have two games in hand on the league leaders.

As Beauly prepare to face Kyles Athletic at Braeview on Saturday, Maclean (32) believes they will require more than 10 points to avoid the bottom two.

He says due to the quality of the league, there are not two obvious teams who are favourites for relegation and they must continue their consistent form.

“We are delighted with the start we have made, but there is a lot of work to do yet,” says Maclean.

“A lot of people seem to think that 10 points keep you safe, but I think we are going to need more than that if I am being honest.

“There are a lot of teams in this division capable of beating each other.

“We are looking to accumulate as many points as we can and keep going.”

Maclean says Beauly are a team that do not set targets and are more concerned about performances which are capable of producing wins.

“We spoke about this at the start of the season, we didn’t bother setting targets, we are just going about each game and see where it takes us.

“It is a plan that has worked for us so far, we have had a decent start to the season.”

Beauly suffered disappointment last weekend when they were knocked out of the Macaulay Cup by Lovat after a penalty shoot-out.

Maclean says they will look to bounce back against Kyles tomorrow.

“Kyles have some very good players in certain areas of the pitch and it promises to be a tight game on Saturday.”
