David Maclean says Beauly must learn the lessons of last season’s Balliemore Cup final defeat to lift the trophy tomorrow.

Beauly take on Inveraray in the cup final at An Aird, Fort William as they look to lift their first piece of silverware this season.

Last season, Beauly suffered a 3–1 defeat to Skye in the Balliemore Cup final.

Speaking on the Half Swing Shinty Podcast, Maclean says his players can’t let the occasion get the better of them.

“We didn’t play bad against Skye,” he said.

“But we have to try to play the game as any other, don’t try and do anything special do the same things and turn up and win the cup this time.

“It’s a final everyone looks forward to, we had a good training session and everyone is looking forward to it.”

Beauly are on course to win a league and cup double in an impressive campaign so far.

They are currently at the top of the National Division, only failing to win once all season in the league.

Maclean says it would be a great achievement to win both competitions with a club who have been starved of success.

“I have played Beauly most of my days and we have had little success apart from the Balliemore Cup in 2015.

“It would be great if we could get over the line with both, but that is a long way away.”

Maclean says it will be a tough test to defeat Inveraray tomorrow as they have only lost once in the league this season.

It was Beauly who inflicted the defeat with a 3–1 win at The Winterton in June.

Speaking about their previous clash with Inveraray, Maclean said: “We were fortunate enough to take chances but it could’ve gone other way.

“They were physical and sharp at the front and gave our defence a difficult time. “We are under no illusions this will be a tough game. “That is the only game they have lost in the league so far and that speaks for itself.”
