DAVE Newsham was unable to complete the season on a high with another podium finish at Brands Hatch, but he can still look back on a very successful season with Team ES Racing.

A first-ever British Touring Car Championship win was achieved at Snetterton, while he also took the chequered flag on home soil at Knockhill.

Another four podium placings were also secured and despite a sixth and seventh place finish in two of the three races he completed at Brands Hatch, Newsham, of Inverness, finished the season ninth in the overall drivers standings.

In the last of his exclusive diary articles for the Courier this season, the 45-year-old provides website readers with an extract from events at the circuit, which is based near Swanley, Kent.

"I made a lousy start to race two, dropping at least two places, but by lap three I was back up to seventh with some pace in the car.

Lap six, and once again all over the back of Jason. In the wet conditions, there is often more grip on the outside of the corner.

Jason defended the inside, therefore I went for the outside line at the hairpin, exiting the corner ahead of Jason only for him to hit my rear wheel sending me across the grass and backwards into the tyre wall.

I was lucky not to roll over, but my race was ended."
