ENGLISH Championship sides Reading and Derby County are understood to have sent scouts to assess Caley Thistle’s top scorer Adam Rooney at Inverness’s closing game of the season.
The Irishman netted in the 2-1 at Hamilton on Saturday and is currently considering a new contract offered from the Highland Capital club.
But his 21-goal campaign in the SPL has attracted plaudits and interest from other clubs.
"There’s a lot of scouts watching him, but he know that his value will increase dramatically if he stays with us," Butcher said.
"People are saying he’s had a great first season in the SPL, can he do it again? Perhaps that makes club’s unsure about taking him, but I don’t know that’s up to them.
"What I am sure about is that we want him. We love him at the club and he knows that we’re going to bring in different players next season, exciting players.
"There’s a big temptation for him to stay at the club and enhance his career because I feel with the way we play then he’ll definitely get 20 goals again next season," he continued.
"If he goes it will be a really big miss for us and we’ll have to bring in another player for that role, and they are big shoes to fill.
"However, I’m not looking at that. I want to get him on board for next season."
