The Scottish Squash Open started on Wednesday with the first round of the men’s and women’s competitions featuring players from across the world.
The opening day featured 16 first round matches in the PSA 12 Challenger men’s and women’s events.
Inverness player Martin Ross was in action after receiving a wildcard into the competition.
However he was unable to get past the first round when he went down 3-0 to Edmon Lopez of Spain.
Lopez claimed victory 11-4, 11-6, 11-7 in a match which lasted 30 minutes.
Seven Scottish players took part in the first round, but only one managed to claim victory and progress to the second round of the competition.
Alison Thomson was the only Scottish player who claimed victory in the opening round as she battled to a four game win over Egyptian teenager Hana Ismail.
She claimed victory in a 3-1 win with 9-11, 11-7, 12-10, 11-9 in 52 minutes.
Wednesday was a day of international success, with all eight women’s winners hailing from different countries, concluding with an upset win for Lea Barbeau over Elise Romba, the only two French players in the draw facing each other, with the other matches all going to seeding.
It was a similar story in the men’s draw as players from five different nationalities advanced, they included two from New Zealand and Spain and one each from Ireland, England and Egypt.
