Scottish hopes are over as top seeds crash out of Scottish Squash Open in Inverness

Top seeds Rory Stewart and Georgia Addersley both suffered defeat in the Scottish Squash Open quarter finals taking place at Inverness Squash Club as no Scottish players remain in the competition.

Perth's Stewart went down to a 3-0 defeat to Spain Edmon Lopez in an epic 66 minute match which went 17-15, 17-15, 11-7.

Lopez said he was delighted to win in straight games as he continues his comeback from injury.

He said: “It’s been a tough two years.

"“I’ve been six month in, six months out with injury, but now I’m back and I think I’ve found the balance.

“It’s always a great atmosphere and that was such a tough match against Rory. Now I’m back I’d love to win it again!”

Lopez will face Egypt's Kareem El Torkey in the semi final at 7pm on Saturday after he defeated Miles Jenkins from England 3-1 (11-9, 9-11, 11-5, 11-2) in a 52 minute match.

He said after his win: "I’m really happy.

“This is a great event and to reach the semis after such a hard battle, it’s just so good!”

In the other semi final, Daniel Poleshchuk of Israel will take on Ben Smith of England at 2pm on Saturday.

Third seed Poleshchuk beat fifth seed James Peach of England 11-9, 11-9, 11-6 with Smith beating Sam Buckley of Ireland 11-4, 11-8, 11-7.

In the women's competition, Edinburgh's Addersley, the number one seed, suffered a 3-0 defeat to fifth seed Torrie Malik 11-7, 15-13, 13-11 in 40 minutes.

Malik will now face Asia Harris of England in the semi final after she beat Kaitlyn Watts of New Zealand 3-1 (8-11, 11-3, 13-11, 12-10) in 43 minutes.

The semi final will take place at 8pm.

In the other semi final, Nardine Garas of Egypt will take on Grace Gear of England at 3pm.

Garas beat Alicia Mead of England 3-2 (12-10, 7-11, 4-11, 11-9, 11-5) in 46 minutes.

Gear beat Rana Ismail of Egypt 3-0 (11-2, 11-4, 13-11) in 27 minutes.
