Nairn County hoped more detail would be released in guidelines this week to allow them to make a decision over whether to enter this season’s Scottish Cup.

New dates for the competition were announced this week, with clubs given the option to pull out with no financial penalty.

Desire is not the issue at Station Park – but rather facilities are, with the club unsure of whether they would be able to meet the criteria needed under the current pandemic regulations.

Club chairman Donald Matheson insisted Wee County wanted to take part, but there was still a question mark as the Inverness Courier went to press over whether that would be feasible.

“At the moment, we don’t know what the protocols are for changing rooms,” Matheson explained.

“With the protocols that have been stipulated by SportScotland, there’s no chance we could comply.

“I worked it out, we would need effectively seven Portakabins to change one team, so in theory you would need 14 just for the teams and then you have shower facilities for both teams.

“New guidance was due to come out this week, and we’ve got until 5pm on Friday to make a final decision. We would definitely like to enter.

“The first round starts on Boxing Day, if we get through the preliminary round, and we feel it’s unfair on players – not just ours, from any team – to tell them they can’t enjoy their Christmas.

“Then we’ve got a potential problem with the tiers. It’s all so up in the air, so you just don’t know. We’re kind of in limbo, but I would like us to play.”
