STRIKER Scott Davidson says Nairn County should be aiming for a top-four finish in the Highland League after beating another of the division’s heavyweights.

A late goal saw Nairn County stun title challengers Inverurie Locos 3–2 at Station Park to move into sixth place.

Nairn have taken seven points out of nine off the top three teams in the league at home which has included a 1–0 victory over league leaders Brora Rangers and a 2–2 draw against third place Fraserburgh.

Nairn are eight points off bogey side Rothes in fourth and three points behind Buckie Thistle in fifth.

But Davidson, who scored twice for Nairn on Saturday, is aiming for his team to overtake both those sides and to claim the club’s best finish since third in 2014.

“We’re not far off the top four,” he said.

“There’s no reason for us not to creep up there.

“Our manager thinks we can, I believe him and I am sure some of the other boys do as well.

“I think that it is a realistic ambition.

“We have a great squad and it is a young team but everyone is learning.”

Davidson arrived at Station Park from Brora Rangers in November to boost the squad’s attacking options.

He proved deadly in front of goal last weekend, pulling his team from behind scoring Nairn’s first two goals before Gordon McNab grabbed the winner three minutes from the end.

After a frustrating time at Dudgeon Park, Davidson is relishing the opportunity for firing in the goals for Nairn.

“I’m 25 and I like to think I am bringing experience to young boys in the squad,” he said.

“The main thing for me is that I’m playing every week.

“Hopefully that is me back among the goals and long may that continue.

“I do have a target of how many goals I want to score by the end of the season.

“But I will keep that to myself.

“But I have only just arrived at Nairn.

“I have worked hard and in the first few games the main thing was about getting the minutes and getting my sharpness back.

“Against Inverurie I felt a lot better and 100 per cent I think the best is yet to come not just from me but from Nairn County too.”
