Sapphires shine as they beat Rubies in Inverness netball derby

Inverness Sapphires proved too good for Inverness Rubies in the city derby as they picked up a convincing a 49-16 victory in the Highland Netball League.

Both teams came out strong, winning their corresponding centre passes, however the defensive Sapphires side managed to win ball to create a more competitive first quarter and keeping the supporters on the edge of their seats.

The Rubies remained competitive throughout, turning over the ball and making careful play to score goals.

But the Sapphires were able to remain dominant throughout the four quarters as they were in control throughout the match.

The players of the match were defender Emma Taylor from the Rubies side along with the Sapphires’ impressive attacker, Camille Harrison.

Inverness Diamonds ran riot against Thurso Netball Club as they cruised to a 65-14 victory at Inverness Royal Academy.

The shooting trio of Nic Mackenzie, Ginette Caie and Leia Pol were in devastating form as they racked up an impressive 65 goals between them, averaging a goal quicker than one a minute in a tremendous performance.

The defensive trio of Kathy Morrison, Andrea Ross and Hilary Brown worked to limit Thurso to 14 goals.

In the middle of the court; Hayley Ross, Sam Macleod, Claire Williams and Laura Noone were fundamental in the Diamonds success gaining multiple turnover balls and breaking down the Thurso attack.

Pol was awarded the player of the match.
