HUGO Crush says Highland’s huge victories this season is an indication the club have what it takes to be title contenders in National One this season.

The Inverness club have been in ruthless form this season racking up 152 points in their four matches, making them the second highest point scorers behind Ayr.

They continued their impressive form as they thrashed Glasgow High Kelvinside 50-21, running in eight tries at Canal Park in Inverness on Saturday.

The win has put them into second place, only five points behind leaders Ayr.

Other big wins this season include a 49-17 win at Dundee and 41-0 win against Watsonians at Canal Park. Although they were also on the receiving end of a 38-14 defeat to GHA.

Crush says the high number of points they have scored this season is a signal of their ambition to win promotion to the Premiership.

"We have to strive for that," he said.

"We have only played four games, we will have a good indication where we are after we play everyone once.

"We have shown with the squad and the depth we have, we can definitely mount a title challenge and it isn't out of our reach."

He added: “We have managed to get bonus points in all three victories this season.

“That is why we are sitting in second place in the table.

“We are not getting too carried away though as we still have to face good teams such as Ayr and Melrose.

“But to have boys like Calum Macpherson come back into the team after university, has brought something into the team we haven’t had before. We have been a strong unit in the last few years and things are gelling for us now.”

Highland head to bottom of the table Biggar on Saturday afternoon.

The South Lanarkshire outfit have been one of the heavyweights of National One in recent years, but have lost all four matches so far this campaign and are bottom of the table.

Crush says Biggar are a familiar outfit to Highland, having been promoted with them from National Two in 2019.

Despite their opponent’s poor form, Crush says Highland know they can’t afford to take anything for granted.

“We never write Biggar off, I don’t think Highland have ever won there. It is a fear they have that zero in their win column could be a driving factor for them.

“But our pack has been dominant this year and their success rate has been really high.

“That has given the backs the opportunity to pull some really good stuff off.

“If we can dominate them up front, our backs could do really well.

"However, we have to push ourselves and prove we are one of the better teams in the league, our away form has to match our home form."
