The Inverness athlete will begin his quest for Scottish Open glory after being accepted into the competition as a wildcard.

The 28-year-old will be taking on Edmon Lopez from Spain tomorrow night at 7pm in the first round of the competition.

Ross, who now lives in Edinburgh and has completed a PHD in computer science, is delighted to be taking part in the tournament.

He hopes he can progress to the next round and record an impressive victory against a tough opponent.

“I have never played Edmon before, but I know his name and have been looking at his previous games,” said Ross ahead of his match tomorrow.

“I have been doing my homework and trying to figure out a gameplan before my match against him.

“I think he used to be in the top 50 in the world and when you take on a player of that standard, it is always going to be tough.

“My job now is to come up with a tactic which can beat him.”

Ross’ entry in the Scottish Squash Open was confirmed six weeks ago when he received a wildcard entry into the competition.

He also took part in the 2021 Scottish Squash Open when he lost in the first round to Nick Wall from England.

He says it will be a special occasion to take part in the competition again.

“It is special to play the Scottish Squash Open in Inverness,” said Ross.

“I played at the Open in Inverness in 2021 and it was a great experience to be part of.

“Inverness Squash Club is where it all started for me and it is a great club to be part of.

“I don’t get back there too often, so I am looking forward to going back to play.”

Fellow Inverness player Alasdair Prott is confirmed as the eight seed in the tournament and has received a bye into the second round.

He starts his campaign on Thursday night when he takes on the winner of the first round match between Englishmen Miles Jenkins and Will Slater.

Perth’s Rory Stewart is the number one seed in the men’s competition.

In the women’s competition which also starts tomorrow, Edinburgh’s Georgia Addersley is the number one seed.
