ROSS County beat clubs south of the border to land highly rated striker Jake Jervis at the weekend.

The Dingwall club, who last month snapped up Raith Rovers midfielder Joe Cardle, made the 22-year-old Portsmouth forward their second summer capture and the player will join his new team-mates soon as they prepare for their third successive top-flight campaign.

Jervis becomes a free agent on July 1 when he will then officially become a Ross County player.

Staggies manager Derek Adams said: "We had to compete with a number of English League clubs for Jake's signature. He will be a great addition to our squad for next season."

Jervis has been released by League Two Portsmouth after a loan spell in Turkey with Elazigspor.

He's also had loan spells at Notts County, Hereford United, Swindon Town, Preston North End and Carlisle but will see this move to the north as Scotland as his best opportunity to settle and shine.
