Ross County striker says ‘It has not gone the way I wanted’

Ross County forward Eamonn Brophy admits he needs game time to build his match sharpness back up.
The one-time Scotland international has found minutes hard to come by this season, with injuries taking him out of contention more often than he would have liked.
Brophy has not started a match since October 31, away at Hibernian, but says he has been fit and trying to battle his way back into the side since early December.
The 27-year-old has every intention of continuing to work hard to force his way into manager Derek Adams’ plans more regularly, but admits it has been a frustrating time for everyone involved in Dingwall.
“I’ve been fit – I’ve just found it hard to get back in the team,” he explained.
“Obviously the manager has decisions to make and, unfortunately, I haven’t been able to start any games under him yet.
“Hopefully I can soon. That’s up to him. I’ll just keep working hard and hopefully I get the nod, sometime soon.
“I need game-time. I’ve not had it a lot this season. Certainly when I came here, that’s not what I was wanting – I came here to play.
“When I came here on loan last season, I felt like I was playing my best football in years to be honest, but then I got that injury which is unfortunate.
“Since I came back, it has not gone the way I wanted and I’m sure it hasn’t gone the way the club wanted as well.
“Obviously I came with an injury, then found it hard to get into the team under Malky Mackay for a few games.
“I got in and then first game back at Motherwell, I picked up an injury.
“Since the gaffer has come in I’ve found it hard to get into the team. As I say, I just need to work hard in training and hopefully I get that start soon.”
Brophy will certainly be hoping to make an impact, whether from the start or coming on as a substitute, away at Motherwell this evening.
County could find themselves cut adrift in 11th if they lost at Fir Park – albeit still with a game in hand over the Steelmen – and Brophy is well aware of the stakes at play after the Staggies recorded disappointing results against Livingston last Tuesday and St Johnstone on Saturday.
“It is another massive game,” Brophy added.
“The last two have been huge. It was disappointing not win the game last Tuesday and especially Saturday at home.
“We need to get the three points, to be honest. Especially against teams around about us, we need to start winning games.
“We need to go there and take all three points. Hopefully we can do that.”
