Matthew Wright and Adam Mackinnon's time at Montrose has come to an end as it has been confirmed that Ross County have recalled the young duo from their loans at Links Park.

The pair, who were also sent out to Brora Rangers together last season, joined Stewart Petrie's side on an initial season-long loan in August.

They caught the eye in League One, collectively making 34 appearances in the first half of the campaign with Mackinnon scoring twice and Wright among the club's top scorers on six.

Wright and Mackinnon had been spending the early part of the week training with the Staggies in Dingwall, before heading to Montrose for the end of the week to train and play there.

County boss Malky Mackay had hinted that a decision would have to be made on the pair's progress last month, saying he would look at the situation again around Christmas time.

"It's just a matter of steady as she goes," Mackay had said at the time.

"We'll have a chat at Christmas, because we'll need to see what the lie of the land for our squad is before deciding whether they go back out again in January."

Montrose manager Petrie said: “Whilst we are obviously disappointed to lose both boys, we are very grateful for the opportunity to have had them here for the last five months and for that I would like to personally extend a sincere thanks to Malky and everyone at Ross County.

“We wish both Adam and Matty well, they have been a credit to themselves, their families and their club and both have very bright futures in the game.”
