ROSS County are upping their bid to crank up the noise in the Jail End by installing a safe standing area at the Global Energy Stadium.

Scottish champions Celtic have been given the green light to have special rail seating, which fold down to allow a section of the support to stand, in place at Parkhead for the start of next season.

Work is being carried out on that in a corner of the Lisbon Lions Stand, making them the first British club to implement safe standing.

County chairman Roy MacGregor has watched these developments with interest over recent years and now the club only need safety clearance to press on with plans, although it won’t be in place as quickly as next term.

He told the North Star: "We are currently looking at the safety issues, but we are looking to take out seats from the Jail End. We want to see how it works at Celtic for a year and then bring the same into our stadium, although we’re not sure about the folding seats that Celtic will have.

"Some of the atmosphere was lost when we put the seats in the Jail End and we want to have an area where our supporters can stand. I think it will be a popular decision. It’s too early to say at this stage how many fans will be able to stand, but David O’Connor (County’s stadium manager) is working on this right now, so things are moving along."
