VICTOR Loturi is confident Ross County have the quality to reclaim top six status this season.

As Saturday’s win against St Mirren lifted the Staggies off bottom place in the Premiership, Loturi stood out as a calm and creative force in the heart of midfield.

It has taken time for him to grasp a foothold in the starting 11, but is just one of several now making their mark in arguably the most competitive Premiership in years.

Hibs away tonight, and then Celtic Park on Saturday will test County’s recovery, but the 21-year-old Canadian is relishing the challenge.

“This was meant to happen. We’ve been so unlucky in these past few games, but the win sets us up perfectly for Tuesday,” Loturi said.

“Games like Hibs at Easter Road, then Celtic away is why we came here, to play in these big games. We’re ready for it.

“My first league start came against Rangers at Ibrox which was a great experience, so I’m ready for the next two games.

“We’re 100 per cent focused on aiming for the top six again this year. We see in training how good a group we are and it is just a matter of time before we start getting our points and picking it up.

“I think we’ll finish top six, 100 per cent.

“It is just a matter of time, honestly. The three points against St Mirren were big and that’s just the start.”

Loturi admits embracing Scottish football has been a shock to the system.

“I was waiting patiently for my opportunity and felt like I took it on Saturday,” he said. “In Canada it is a little bit slower. Here it is more physical and faster, but I’ve just had to adjust to it.

“It is more frantic – it can be crazy out there! What makes it crazy? Just tackles flying everywhere, the physicality of it.

“I feel like I always have to be one step ahead when I’m thinking about what to do next. Above all, it is about being mentally sharper but there are times I need to put a strong challenge in.”
