Ross County manager Malky Mackay has confirmed that on-loan goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer's season is over due to injury.
The Australian stopper had established himself as the Staggies' number one after breaking into the side in September following a loan move from Charlton at the end of the summer transfer window.
He made 17 appearances in all competitions before breaking his nose in the 3–3 draw against Rangers, which proved to be his final game for the club.
On his return to training in Dingwall, Maynard-Brewer picked up a shoulder injury which has kept him on the sidelines, and now Mackay has confirmed the 22-year-old will not play against this season.
“Ash’s shoulder means he is done for the season," Mackay said.
“We spoke to Charlton, and he’s gutted because he was desperate to get back.
“It was a terrific save against Rangers that broke the nose. He came back from that, and in his first training session he dislocated his shoulder. It’s just one of these things.
“He has been terrific for us, and he’s another lad who has come up here and absolutely embraced the Highlands.
“I’ve got to thank him, and Charlton, for the ability to have a little bit of foresight to see what is possible.
“He was playing in front of 50,000 people, and pulling off saves live on television in Britain, so I think it’s been good for him, Charlton and ourselves."
The current plan is for Maynard-Brewer to return to Dingwall to watch the final game of the Premiership season, against Dundee United, as a spectator.
Mackay expects to be doing the watching going forward though when it comes to the Aussie, tipping him to reach the top of the English football pyramid if that's where his aspirations lie.
“I have got no doubts (about Maynard-Brewer)," Mackay insisted.
"He is young, and on the fringe of the Australian national squad. He has played for the Olympic squad.
“Knowing English football the way I do, and having seen him up close and personal, he’s going to be a goalkeeper that plays in that league.
“If he wants to stay in England he will be in that league for the next 15 years."
