ROSS County captain Richard Brittain reckons the Scottish Premiership club’s summer captures should give the fans plenty to look forward to next season.

The release of the new league fixtures yesterday (Wednesday) confirm that the Staggies kick off on August 9 with a home game against Scottish Cup winners St Johnstone before going to Partick Thistle four days later.

The first Highland derby is on October 4 at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium.

January sees teams cram in seven games – with County games against ICT on the first and 31st of the month.

County have been one of the most active clubs so far this summer, with four new players snapped up as we went to press.

Having brought in wide midfielder Joe Cardle from Championship side Raith Rovers and former Portsmouth forward Jake Jervis, manager Derek Adams has continued to recruit while on a week’s break.

With Michael Fraser freed and now an Elgin City player, Adams swooped to secure another former Caley Thistle keeper, Antonio Reguero.

The Madrid-born former Real Madrid shot-stopper moves from top-flight rivals Kilmarnock after failing to make the breakthrough at Rugby Park.

When the 31-year-old spent a season in Inverness from 2012, he made the starting slot his own and made 28 appearances.

Reguero comes to Victoria Park on a one-year contract.

The same deal was handed out on Friday to 23-year-old Northern Irish international striker Liam Boyce who arrives from Cliftonville.

He has netted 84 times in two spells and 181 appearances for Cliftonville and will relish the challenge of Scotland’s top-flight having had an unsuccessful stint in Germany with Werder Bremen before returning to Northern Ireland.

Another player who will be wearing County colours at least until next summer is defender Ben Gordon.

The 23-year-old former Chelsea and Kilmarnock full-back played 24 times for the Staggies last term.

Skipper Brittain feels the quality has been added he can’t wait to get started again.

He told the North Star: "The club have added players of a really decent quality this summer and I, for one, am looking forward next season.

"We finished seventh last season and we want to at least match that, although we know that will be difficult.

"You look at the players who have come in – playing against Joe Cardle at Raith was always tough, he’s got real quality, Liam Boyce has a proven scoring record and Antonio has played at this level, so will be another good addition.

"Although I don’t know too much yet about Jake, he’s also played at a decent record, so we can look ahead with optimism.

"We start against St Johnstone and we can look forward to that."
