Miles Storey says Buckie Thistle’s late equaliser gave Inverness Caledonian Thistle the kick they needed to go on and secure their place in the third round of the Scottish Cup.

Things could not have started better for the Caley Jags, as James Keatings opened the scoring with just 35 seconds on the clock.

Jack Murray brought the hosts back to level terms though, before Sean Welsh gave Inverness a lead going into half time.

For a while it looked as though that would be enough, despite Buckie giving their all to break Inverness down, but Callum Murray would score in the 84th minute to make it 2–2.

Knowing that if the cup tie went to extra time and penalties it could become a lottery, Storey says that was all the motivation ICT needed to go on the attack again, with Daniel MacKay sealing the win.

“I think it gave us a little bit of a kick to be honest,” Storey said.

“In extra time and penalties, anything can happen, so going into the late stages of the game at 2–2 could have seen us in trouble.

“We did well to respond and put a bit of pressure on them, and we got in front again, so we’ll take it.

“They did well. They haven’t trained much, but I think they should be proud because they pushed us all the way. You see the scores elsewhere, so it was a sticky place to go.

“It seems like a bit of a cliche, but we just needed to be in the hat at the end of the game.”

The result earned ICT a Highland derby away at Ross County in the next round – a game that Storey is naturally looking forward to.

“It’s a big game,” the attacker added.

“I’ve always liked going there, and it will be a big game for the fans as well. You never know what can happen, we’ll give anyone a game on our day, so we’re all looking forward to it.”
