HILTON Primary School shinty team were given a new look when they received new team kit which was donated on behalf of Tanera Camans and Shinty World.

Last September, Hilton shinty team reached a major cup final for the first time in the school’s history only to finish runners-up to Alvie in a close contest.

Tanera Camans are an Inverness based shinty stick manufacturer partly sponsors the strips which were designed and supplied by Shinty World also based in Inverness.

Shinty World specialises in the supply of shinty equipment and used this opportunity to launch this new service which will be available later this year.

The new kit was handed over to the team by Alan MacPherson and Donna Mckellar at a special ceremony which took place at the school last week to the delight of the team.

They said they were delighted to hand over the new kit to the school as they said they have been impressed with the progress they have made as a team this year.

Macpherson said: “We are delighted to hand over the new strips.”

McKellar added: “It is recognition of the hard work these kids have put into training alongside the commitment from the coaches and parents to make sure the kids have an opportunity to compete at the highest level in their age group.”

Also pictured alongside the boys and girls from the Hilton shinty team are Stuart Mackinnon and head coach Martin Oparka who started the team in 2017.

Oparka says the team was honoured to receive the support from the two companies and for the recognition it represented for their team’s excellent work during 2022.

He says the team will wear and use the kit with great pride when they take part in future competitions as they look to achieve more progress in the sport.

Oparka said: “It’s a real honour to be sponsored by Tanera Camans and Shinty World especially when both are located in the Hilton community.

“I know the children will wear the tops with pride whenever they compete for their school.

“We cannot thank Alan and Donna enough for their ongoing support.”
