CLACH claimed a 3-1 pre-season win over junior hosts Inverness City on Wednesday as they moved a step closer to the new Highland League season.

The Lilywhites bounced back from a 3-1 friendly defeat against Caley Thistle last weekend to City, with manager Ian Polworth happy with his squad’s performance.

Hopeful of securing another three pre-season friendlies in time for next weekend, one of which against the Ross County under-20s squad, Polworth is trying to keep his players as busy as possible before the Highland League season kicks off at the end of the month.

“It was a decent work-out for the guys and everyone got a good amount of game time,” he said.

“It was all about chasing people down and getting that little bit sharper. I’m trying to keep the players busy, but busy with games.”

This match comes after the Lilywhites made a double signing swoop last weekend, recruiting a new assistant manager and an attacking Ross County midfielder.

After Allan MacDonald’s departure the Lilywhites moved quickly to appoint Brian Macleod as his replacement.

Polworth is delighted that he has managed to secure the services of a highly respected assistant coach, and has his eye fixed on signing a few more players up before their opening Highland League game against Buckie Thistle on July 30.

“Brian is well respected by the boys and his coaching methods are good. He’s respected on every level, by the players and people out and about, the directors, so it was a very easy transition for him.

“I’m hoping to get another couple of players in, just to try and get a stronger depth of squad than we had last year.”

Clach kick off their campaign with a trip to Buckie Thistle on July 30.
