Clachnacuddin boss Iain Polworth has resigned in the wake of Saturday's 4-0 Scottish Cup defeat to Rothes.

The manager, who took over 10 years ago following the sacking of Rod Houston and Dave Mackay, guided the club through one of the most turbulent periods in their history.

The Lilywhites survived administration in 2009 and recovered to become a force once again in the Highland League, with Polworth being named manager of the year in 2013 after guiding the Grant Street Park outfit to a top-five finish.

However, the club had endured a difficult start to the season, winning just one of their opening eight games - a run which leaves them third-bottom on just four points.

It is understood that Clach's players were informed of the manager's departure on Monday evening.

The remaining coaching staff will remain in place for Saturday's home game, with Rothes the opposition once again.

Clach said in a statement: "The board of directors of the club wish to announce that tonight they reluctantly accepted the resignation of first team manager Iain Polworth with immediate effect.

"The board wish to put on record its immense thanks to Iain for his service to the club both on and off the pitch."
