CLACH boss Iain Polworth hopes his side can kick on up the Highland League when they host basement side Strathspey Thistle this weekend.

The Lilywhites earned their first point of the season when they shared the spoils with Wick Academy in a drab goalless draw at Grant Street on Saturday.

Now Polworth is calling on his team to see off the Jags, who were last weekend crushed 6-1 at home to Formartine United.

Defeats for the Merkinchers in their opening three games, against Buckie Thistle, Keith and Formartine United, came despite positive performances, especially in the 2-1 loss to Formartine, which came on the back of a controversial late winner and Polworth wants to see his players get the win they need to move closer to mid-table.

He said: "In our two games before last week, we deserved more from what we got. Our performances have been better than the league tables shows and we need to try and get a win against Strathspey. However, they turned us over last season and they have players who can hurt teams. They will be looking to get off the mark too."
