The competition is scheduled to start on Monday, February 21 at the 147 Pool and Snooker Centre in Inverness where matches will take place once every two weeks.

Entries for their year’s competition must be made by Monday, February 7 at the 147 Pool and Snooker Centre or by visiting the Inverness Snooker League Facebook site for more information.

During the competition’s first season, 24 players took part and was hailed a great success by organisers.

Inverness Snooker League co-chairman John McAleaney says they want to make the competition bigger and better this season by encouraging more players to take part.

“We had 24 players last year and it was a trial and error on how to get a snooker league working.

“Now we have an idea from things last year and getting things in place for this season.

“We were finding a balancing act of players that were very good and those who could pot only one or two balls.

“Everyone enjoyed it and around 70 per cent of players are coming back for the new season as well.”

As well as the competitive element, McAleaney says snooker is also good for the mental health of players and that is an aspect of the game that league organisers are keen to promote.

“Cue sports is brilliant for mental health as it gets you out socialising and do something different.

“Snooker more than pool focusses the mind and allows you to get out of your bubble and focus on something else.”

The Inverness Snooker League is looking for entries by February 7.

Organisers are focussed on establishing the league in Inverness at present.

But they also have plans to help promote the game to a younger audience to get more players involved in the sport in the city.
