Highland Weightlifting Club had plenty to celebrate when it held its annual Christmas fun competition at the weekend – following a year in which members won three British and nine Scottish champion titles.

The successes ranged from youth right through to masters with even a sixth place at the World Masters Championships in Poland.

Crossfit 57 North provided the use of the facility for the Christmas fun competition, which was held in support of the charity SNAP and raised more than £200 for the cause.

The club also presented its annual awards at the competition with Head Coach Nicky Grant presenting the certificates. Nicky was selected to coach Team Scotland at the Celtic Nations Weightlifting Competition earlier in the year adding to the experience she gained at the Commonwealth Games the year before, and the club awarded her a special coach’s award for all of her efforts.

The club has given a "big thanks" to Donnie Beaton from Crossfit 57 North for kindly allowing the club use of his facility for the charity competition.

Next year will see many of the club’s younger lifters representing the Highlands at national level with a number of masters lifters competing on the international stage at the European Championships in Finland in June.

The club regularly meets at Inverness Leisure and anyone wishing to take up the sport should contact the Club at Highlandweightliftingclub@gmail.com or find them on Facebook or Instagram.
