CLACHNACUDDIN cruised into the semi finals of the Highlands and Islands Cup as they thrashed Caithness 7–0 at Inverness Royal Academy on Sunday.
The Lilywhites were in full control of the clash as they kept their 100 per cent winning record in all competitions in 2022.
Betty Ross, who has earned a reputation as the most lethal striker in the league, opened the scoring after 11 minutes when she perfectly executed a free kick from the edge of the box straight into the top right corner of the net.
Shannon Fulton doubled their advantage midway through the first half when she fired a low drive past Caithness goalkeeper Leoni Mowat.
Just after the half hour mark, Chloe Macleod made it 3–0 when she collected the ball from the half way line and made a sensational run towards goal and fired into the net.
Caithness put in some stubborn defence with Mowat producing a number of great saves.
But Clach made it 4–0 midway through the second half when Macleod’s cross found Fulton in the box to fire home.
Macleod grabbed her second goal of the game to make it 5–0 in the 66th minute before Eilidh Anderson made it 6–0 two minutes later with a sensational long range drive.
Ross completed the rout two minutes from time to score her second of the game in a confident performance from the Lilywhites.
Assistant manager Brian Nicol says his team produced a ruthless performance.
“I thought our girls completely outplayed them and we were on it from the start,” he said.
“We passed the ball around really well and dictated large parts of the game. It was great to see goals come from all over the park too, with Chloe Macleod and Eilidh Anderson stand outs in the centre of midfield.
“The league is what we’re concentrating on, but we are looking for a good cup run too.”
