Inverness Caledonian Thistle midfielder Lewis Hyde says he will work as hard as he can to fulfil his obsession with becoming the first name in the starting 11.

The 20-year-old has made 27 appearances for the Caley Jags this season, with an extended run in the side thanks to the club’s injury crisis.

Having had that taste of what it is like to play every week, Hyde is desperate to ensure that role is his future as well as his past, and will do whatever it takes to make that a reality.

“I played in a bounce game last week with the under-18s against Forres, and you’d rather be playing on a Saturday obviously,” he said.

“That connection with the fans and our club, that’s where the boys I was playing with want to be, but I’ve had that taste of it. Growing up, that’s what you aim for.

“I’m always in the ear of all the coaches, and even the sports scientist, asking everyone how I get better.

“I’m obsessed with doing well in the game. I want to get better, I want to be starting every week. I want to be the first name on the teamsheet – that’s my goal.

“I’ve been doing a bit of individual practice, a wee bit extra after training, which are baby steps in the right direction. I would love to be playing, but it’s not something that’s going to happen overnight.”

With others returning to fitness, Hyde’s chances have been more limited in recent weeks, but he is determined to get back in the fold.

“I have to give even more to get back in the team,” Hyde added.

“I never got complacent, but I’ve got to find another gear and improve different areas of my game to show the gaffer that I’m the man.

“I’m still young, I can’t get caught up in thinking I want to play every week, I just have to improve.

“That’s the end goal, but it’s definitely frustrating because you want to make the difference.”
