Northern Counties are the only side in the North of Scotland Cricket Association Senior League with a perfect record, but club captain Will Ford says that will put a target on their backs.

Counties travel to Castle Leod to take on Ross County tomorrow, with the league appearing to have split into a top three, challenging for the title, and a bottom three who are out of contention.

The Strathpeffer side are one of those at the right end of the table, but Ford believes that regardless of who Counties are up against, everyone will be out to beat them given they sit at the top of the table.

“When you’ve got a 100 per cent record you’ve got a target on your back straight away,” he explained.

“Everybody wants to beat you, but Ross County are a club we have a really good working relationship with. It’s always a good, fun game that is played in the right spirit, but it will be very competitive at the same time.

“Yes, it’s a target on our back, but not a target on each of us individually.

“It’s a target on our backs collectively, so as long as we stay a team and stick together, there will be days where people don’t score runs, and other days when they’re scoring for fun.

“What’s important is that when one person is having a bad game, somebody else picks it up, and that’s what we’ve been doing.”

Elsewhere in the Senior League, Nairn County will try to pick up their first win of the season at home against defending champions Forres.

Fort Augustus, meanwhile, head to Elgin aiming to bounce back after last week’s defeat at Ross County.
