CALEY Jags midfielder Greg Tansey insists the Highlanders should fear no-one ahead of the new Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership season.

The 26-year-old, who helped ICT win the Scottish Cup and qualify for the Europa League last season, is relishing the chance to prove the critics wrong again as they try to get as close as they can to matching their best ever campaign.

He said: "Last season was the best in the club’s history and we know there’s a big task ahead of us but we are more than capable of achieving. Why can’t we go for the cups or finish high up the table again to get a European spot? There’s no team that worries us in this league. Even Celtic, we got our fair share against last season, so we’re not fearful. We’re looking forward to it.

"It really is all about taking one game at a time. That’s what we did last year. Everyone was against us at the start of last season and writing us off but we will only concentrate on our next game. That’s what brought us success. As soon as we start getting ahead of ourselves that’s when we will start falling. We won’t do that because we have learned a lot from last season."

ICT kick off this season against Motherwell and Tansey insists getting a win can set the tone as they did a year ago when they went five games before a defeat.

After taking on the Well, ICT take on St Johnstone, Partick Thistle, Celtic, Hamilton and Dundee before the international break and Tansey feels they can rack up a healthy early tally.

He explained: "We had a good start last year and that stood us in good stead for the rest of the season. The first run of games ahead of the international break are winnable. Every team in this league will want to start well and we’re no different."
