NEWTONMORE captain Scott Chisholm was at their home ground this week looking ahead to the coming season, which starts this Saturday.

It has just been announced by the Camanachd Association that the Orion Group had extended their sponsorship of shinty’s Premiership until the end of 2014.

Orion Group began their sponsorship of shinty’s top league in 2012 when the company was celebrating its 25 year of operation and following two thrilling seasons, both clinched by Newtonmore, they have agreed to continue their involvement for the coming year.

This season will again see the Orion Group Premiership Derby Day take place on Saturday, May 3 and a possible Badenoch derby on the evening of Friday, August 1.

Newtonmore and Lovat dominated the top of the table for most of 2013, however just four points separated the rest which sets the scene nicely for a great many exciting ties in 2014.

Orion Group’s head of marketing and communications, Scott Burns-Smith said: “Orion are delighted to be sponsoring the Premiership for the forthcoming season.

"As a company operating not a only in Scotland but across various locations internationally, sponsoring such sporting associations and projects within different cultural communities are part of our organisation's ethos and we are pleased to offer our support to the Camanachd Association for the third consecutive year.”

More skipperChisholm said: “Newtonmore had a great 2013 and we are all really looking forward to the start of the new season, but with two less teams in the league, we know competition for points is going to be tight, so we haven’t taken anything for granted.”

Camanachd Association president Archie Robertson said: “The Camanachd Association is delighted Orion Group has extended their sponsorship of the Premiership. The Orion Group Premiership showcases the best of shinty so it is fitting that the pairing with such a prestigious and successful Scottish company continues.”

The Orion Group Premiership gets under way this coming Saturday, with Lovat hosting Newtonmore, Kingussie taking on Inveraray, Lochaber travelling to Newtonmore and Glenurquhart facing Kinlochshiel.
