BELOW is the latest instalment of British Touring Car Championship competitor Dave Newsham's diary following the latest round of the season at Croft.

Lights out for race one and I passed Dan Welch. Jeff Smith was in front and I eased left to pass him, I knew I had not fully passed Dan, so was easing over slowly to give him notice. Unbeknown to me, Nick Foster was on the outside of Dan.

The three of us squeezed together. Foster was turned into my door, which shot me left and into the pit wall hard at 112mph, then spinning down the track and another hard impact into the Armco, this time the rear of the car taking the impact.

I was a little shaken, then I looked up the track, seeing bits of my car littering the track — not good.

I extracted myself from the car, and had a good look around it to try and give my mechanics as much information about the damage before the marshals get the car back to the garage. From what I saw, it was not in good shape and I thought my weekend would be over.
