It comes as the Staggies prepare to face Buckie Thistle in the Premier Sports Cup group stage on Saturday.

Manager Malky Mackay says he is content to tackle the Premier Sports Cup group stages with only one preparatory friendly after assessing the risk of playing too many games, too soon, as greater than playing just one.

County, with six new signings making their debuts, saw off Brora Rangers on Wednesday night in a 4-1 victory, their only warm-up game before kicking off the League Cup campaign at Buckie Thistle tomorrow.

The Staggies boss felt it was best to use group games – including further matches against Dunfermline, Alloa and East Fife –as pre-season preparation for the Premiership rather than overload players after such a short summer close season.

“There’s a point where there’s more of a risk to actually playing a game than not playing, with the chance of people getting injured when not been back in training long enough,” Mackay explained.

“There just weren’t not enough weeks in the summer and we had to give them four weeks off after such a long, hard season. At our Italy training camp, they bonded and mixed 24 hours a day and got some great work in.”

In Sutherland, County fans saw real promise in the likes of scorers Kazeem Olaigbe and Jordy Hiwula, as well as fellow new signings Yan Dhanda and the lightening-paced Owura Edwards. Dom Samuel and Matthew Wright also netted in the comfortable win.
