Barely a month into his first big move, the 19-year-old striker has come through a painful injury and witnessed his new club suffer their worst losing run since he was five.

None of this has dampened the Glaswegian’s enthusiasm for his new surroundings.

“It has been brilliant,” the young attacker insisted.

“We have a kind of mixture of young lads who are just trying to push on and make a career and experienced lads still at the top level we can learn from. Billy Mckay is brilliant for me.

“There are lots of lads who are hungry and it is a good balance.

“It is a wee tough spot we’re going through just now, but the lads are all positive and have high hopes. It is just about getting those first points on the board . As soon as that happens, I know we’ll be sailing away.

“We’re losing games by a goal. It’s not as if we’re playing terribly, although we can definitely pick up in a few departments. It is important we remain calm and focused on what is in front of us.”

Brooks wanted to break out of the shadows and kick-start his senior league career after 13 goals in 19 Lowland League games with Celtic’s reserves.

On the field for roughly half the minutes of League Cup games against Bonnyrigg, Dumbarton and Airdrie, he exited the Diamonds’ game in pain.

“It was bone-bruising and the ankle kept swelling up during training,” Brooks explained.

“I tried training through it and actually managed to train Monday to Friday, but had to pull out before the Dundee game.

“It was a bit of a nightmare, but I came on for my league debut against Ayr last weekend and felt fine. It was intense, tough and physical, with a long journey, and I could see the standard of the league is pretty high, but it was a good experience

“Now I’m aiming to push on and try to make a full 90 minutes. I can’t get ahead of myself and be desperate for goals. They will come. As soon as the first one comes, they will hopefully roll in but I can’t put too much pressure on myself.”

n Inverness Caledonian Thistle have been drawn away to Arbroath in the third round of the SPFL Trust Trophy. The match will be played on Saturday, September 9.
