NAIRN St Ninian will head into tonight’s clash against Dufftown at The Showfield looking for their first win of the league season after an encouraging performance against Culter despite a 3–1 defeat in Aberdeen.

Culter went into the break 2–0 up at half time, but Nairn fought back in the second half with a goal from Mervyn Grant midway through the second half.

Culter required a goal three minutes before full time before eventually killing off the match.

New signing Andrew Maclean also made his debut on Saturday.

Manager Lee Walker says it was an improved performance from their 6–0 defeat against Hermes from the previous weekend.

He says they are targeting three points tonight against a team they have already defeated in the Grill Cup group stages

But they also want to go to places, like Culter last weekend and be good enough to return back to Nairn with points.

“I felt that we were unfortunate not to take anything from Culter.

“We got off to a bad start as we conceded a goal after two minutes, but I felt we got better as the match went on.

“We got ourselves back in it, but we got a player sent off with 15 minutes remaining and it changed the game for us.

“It was not our day but the lads are improving every game which is good to see.

“We are targeting three points against Dufftown, but to be fair, we are targeting three points in every game we are playing this season.

“We want to go to Aberdeen and play teams like Culter and be competitive.”

Nairn St Ninian do have injury concerns going into tonight’s match against Dufftown with at least four players classed as major doubts for the match.

“We will only find out on Tuesday afternoon if these players will be able to play for us against Dufftown,” admitted Walker.
