Nairn move quickly to strengthen forward line

The 27-year-old has agreed a three-year deal with the Wee County and his arrival is a timely one after Campbell moved to Division Three side Alloa only last week.
Campbell scored 54 goals for Nairn in the previous two season’s, but a change in his circumstances outwith football meant he had to leave the club.
Manager Les Fridge, however, is pleased to have secured Gethins and conceded he would have been a summer transfer target anyway, even if Campbell had decided to stay.
“After we transferred Craig to Alloa, we were on the lookout for another striker,” he said. “Conor was at young player at Ross County when I was at the club, alongside the likes of Craig and Steven Mackay.
“He actually played as a trialist for us in a pre-season match a couple of years ago and we tried to get him then, but it didn’t happen.
“However, I’ve monitored his career since then. He was at Peterhead last season, but decided to leave and he was doing pre-season with Elgin.
“Conor then came to training with us a couple of times and fortunately we managed to agree a three-year deal, which is great as he’s only 27.
“It’s good that we’ve got him, especially with Craig leaving, but I would have tried to sign him anyway, regardless of Craig being here or not.
“Craig moving away was nothing to do with footballing issues, so there was not a lot we could do. We now move on and it’s great for the club that we’ve managed to get someone like Conor in.”
Gethins wasted no time in making an impression with two goals in a 6-1 win over Avoch on Tuesday night as Nairn began their pre-season schedule. Robbie Duncanson also hit a double, while the other goals came from Dale Gillespie and Gregg Main.
Bishopmill United away are next up for the Wee County tomorrow, before they take on Inverness City and Dufftown in games next week.
