Nairn finish season in fifth

NAIRN County ended a successful season for the club by securing a fifth place finish in the Highland League courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Fort William on Tuesday.

The Fosters Highland League Cup winners travelled to Claggan Park looking to complete the game at the sixth time of asking after the previous five scheduled matches between the two teams succumbed to postponements.

All the goals in this game came in the second half, Robbie Duncanson opening the scoring in the 47th minute from close range after Steven Mackay's free-kick was parried into his path.

Mackay then got himself on the scoresheet with the simplest of finishes in the 65th minute following good work by Dale Gillespie.

A Sean Grant penalty three minutes from time gave Fort renewed hope they could avoid finishing the season with the wooden spoon, but any chance of a comeback was ended moments later as Nairn were awarded a spot-kick of their own that Mackay dispatched to secure victory for the Wee County and manager Les Fridge.
