NAIRN County brushed Fraserburgh aside to win 4-0 and lift the Fosters Highland League Cup in Banff on Saturday.

This was the Station Park club's first League Cup win since 1964, so the Highland town has every reason to celebrate after winning the trophy in real style.

Les Fridge's side were without the suspended Craig Campbell, and Robbie Duncanson, who was on honeymoon.

However, Steven Mackay grabbed a double, including the vital opener from the spot on the stroke of half-time. Tony Low and Glen Main also got on the scoresheet to help Nairn to a stunning victory at Princess Royal Park.

With it looking likely that there would be no goals in the first half, Mackay won a penalty when he was brought down by Russell McBride. The former Ross County hitman buried the spot kick for a 1-0 lead.

Nairn got one hand on the cup on 76 minutes when Mackay's looping header from a Gregg Main cross made it 2-0.

Low then he beat the offside trap and cracked the ball into the net after goalkeeper Paul Leask blocked his first attempt.

Nairn won their second penalty of the final on 80 minutes when Mackay was brought down in the box by Leask, but this time the keeper pulled off a fine diving save.

However, the Station Park side grabbed their fourth goal when Glenn Main rifled home a shot from 15 yards after Dale Gillespie's shot was blocked.

In the Highland League, Sam Urquhart hit a hat-trick to help fire Clach to a 4-2 win at Steve Paterson's Formartine United.

Kyle MacAulay shot Formartine ahead after 17 minutes, but Urquhart cracked home a 25-yard leveller midway through the second half and this inspired the Lilywhites.

Urquhart then placed a stunning overhead kick into the net to give the Inverness side the lead, but a Lewis Forbes header made it 2-2.

Clach upped the pace and went 3-2 ahead with an Urquhart header for his treble and then Kyle MacLean completed the scoring.

In the weekend's other league match, Wick Academy hit five without reply at Lossiemouth.
