The striker has scored three goals in his last two matches to help Nairn surge up the Highland League and go four matches undefeated.

The 21-year-old grew up only a short walk from Station Park where he would regularly watch Nairn County play as a fan.

He is enjoying playing for the team he supports as well being on the same side with players that he grew up watching.

“I have been at the club since I was in the under-15’s squad when I was 13 and have been here for eight years,” says Young.

“I lived around the corner, just a two minute walk from Station Park and I have always been a massive fan.

“It is a club that I always wanted to play for and I am happy that I am here.

“I watched a lot of games when I was younger and used to go to Station Park quite often and watch players such as Conor Gethins.

“He was my favourite player growing up and now I am playing alongside him.

“At the start it was strange playing in the same team as him.”

Young has praised the immediate impact manager Steven Mackay has had on the squad since taking over from Ronnie Sharp earlier this season.

He says the messages the boss is putting out is being listened to by the squad.

“We are on a good run now, the new management have been working us hard and have put a lot of belief in us. We knew we could do a lot better, but we have been following what they have been saying to us.

“Steven has made a big impression on what he has said and the confidence he has put in me, starting me in the last few games and has done well with the other boys too.

“I’m very happy with where I am just now.

“Although I would have liked a few more goals than I already have.

“But it is good to see the boys are winning games again.

“We are playing with confidence again and things are much better.”

Nairn County head to Lossiemouth in the Highland League Cup on Saturday, where they suffered a 5—1 defeat in the league earlier this season.

Young says Nairn won’t be sending the same team to Grant Park and determined to progress to the quarter finals.

He said: “They obviously beat us earlier in the season, but that doesn’t show the team we are now.”
