Over 100 teams were in attendance at the tournament from at all age groups including Belgium, Brazil, France, Iceland, Italy, Netherlands as well as Spain.

Nairn County Fire teams arrived for each session on a personalised club coach. Teams were required to have numbered home and away strips, with Nairn County Fire using Nairn’s traditional yellow as their away strip, and instead favouring Nairn County’s ‘Team Hamish’ third strip as their adopted first strip.

Nairn County Fire put in some incredible performances. The outstanding goalkeepers pulled off world-class saves, the defenders stood strong and performed heroics and the tackles, tricks, flicks, skills, driving runs and goals flowed right across the teams.

It was not long before the plaudits were flooding in for the fight, determination, and quality that Nairn County Fire brought to the tournament.

Having played an incredibly high calibre of opposition in gruelling conditions and put in some outstanding and resilient performances, both teams were incredibly proud to return home in the knowledge that they have secured Nairn County’s first ever international points.

Nairn County Fire chairman and coach Coinneach Morrison said: In addition to the pride that the boys hold in representing their local communities, on their return they now feel incredibly privileged to know that they provided the warm-up act to Scotland’s most recent international football triumph!

Within a matter of days of Nairn County Fire returning to home-turf, Scotland’s Cerebral Palsy Football Team played at exactly the same venue, where they lifted the IFCPF World Championship trophy. Nairn County Fire would like to take this opportunity to extend their huge congratulations to the Scotland outfit for their success!

The team would also like to express their deepest gratitude to ALL the people that made the trip possible, from Nairn County’s extensive support to donations, extensive sponsorship and fundraising, a ladies prosecco day and even the very important bank of granny and grandad!

“Each player would like to say a huge thanks to everyone!”
