NAIRN County fans are being urged to pay a tenner each month to help keep the Highland League afloat.

The fundraising scheme allows supporters to contribute a minimum monthly payment of £10 direct to club funds.

This will give fans a way of providing the club with an immediate cash injection, which will go straight towards running costs and wages.

Ian Finlayson, club director, explained: “First of all, we are delighted to be launching the NCFC Fans Fund and to implement an idea that has come forward from the supporters.

“Given events of the last few weeks, the club’s need for cash is obviously pressing, so it was felt that this fund should be set up as a matter of urgency.

“At this moment in time, it will be purely a donation to the club funds. There will be no way for fans to dictate how the money is spent and there will be no return. However, with the discussions I have had with a handful of fans, the feeling I get is that at this moment in time, these are circumstances the supporters are comfortable with.”

Defender Martin MacDonald helped launch the scheme at Station Park over the weekend.

He said: “It is a great idea and I am sure it will be a real success. The Nairn fans have shown time and time again what they are all about when it comes to raising money and there is no doubt that they will step up to the plate again.

“Obviously it has been a tough few weeks for everyone at the club but you have seen the way the fans and the businesses are rallying round. It has been great and shows you what the club means to everyone in Nairn.

“If we can get 100 fans to subscribe to paying £10 a month, that will give the club an extra £12,000 per year and that could make the difference between bringing in a couple of new players or keeping a few of our better players to help us remain as competitive in the league as we have been over the last few seasons.

“I do not think that is an unrealistic target and I would urge anyone who is thinking of subscribing to get signed up as quickly as they can, as long as it is within their means. We all want to see Nairn County continue to prosper.”

MacDonald has seen the club endure a turbulent few weeks following the retirement of chairman, Peter

Mackintosh and the losses of main sponsor, Narden and manager, Les Fridge.

The centre half said: “Everyone in the squad has been sad to see Les go and also Peter and Michael

Mackintosh from Narden and the chairman as well. They were great to me and I would like to thank them for everything that they have done for me over my 11 years here.

“Football moves on though and we, as players, have to be focussed on returning to pre-season training ready to begin our preparations for the new season. That is all we can think about because what is going on behind the scenes is in the control of the Board of Directors and I am sure they are doing everything they can to stabilise things.”
