Muir of Ord golfer leads way after first round of Inverness Four Day Open

Two time champion John Forbes leads after the first qualifying round of the 43rd Inverness Four Day Open.

Forbes’ two under par round of 67 included six birdies and he leads by one shot from Lewis Reid (Fortrose) and a trio of players on 70, Ross Naismith (Brora), Kieran Mackay (Inverness) and Steven Buchan (Invergordon).

Home players dominate the handicap section with Mike Cormack and Andy Maxtone setting the pace with net 67s, closely followed by Brian Rennie, Hamish Young and Eric Brown on 68.

Round two gets underway at 7am on Tuesday, after which the 16 qualifiers in each section will be determined.

The matchplay stages start on Wednesday with semi finals and finals on Thursday.
