STEVEN Moodie added to his ever-growing medal collection after he followed up his success for Scotland in the Four Nations Parabadminton Championships with a gold and a silver at the German International Tournament.

Two silver medals at events in Scotland and then England meant Moodie, of Inverness, was in good form ahead of his trip to Dortmund for the competition.

Attracting entrants from all across the world including competitors from Australia, Japan and Vietnam, Moodie, who has a below the knee amputation and wears a prosthetic leg, was taking part in both the singles and doubles categories.

One of only three players representing Scotland, the 30-year-old took gold in the singles — an achievement made all the more impressive by the fact this is only the third competition he has participated in.

He managed to overcome Avon’s Bobby Griffin, his doubles partner, to finish on top of the podium.

“I was determined to make it into the finals and win a medal in the singles competition this time round,” he said.

“To come home with gold from an international tournament really has exceeded my expectations. I’m delighted with my achievement.”

Moodie then joined forces with Griffin and he came close to sealing another gold medal, but the pair had to settle for silver after falling short in the doubles.

It has been a incredible start to his parabadminton career for Moodie, who only entered his first competition back in February at the start of the Four Nation series.

He took silver in Glasgow and repeated this feat in Aylesbury last month. Both these medals were won in the doubles category.

Next for Moodie is the two remaining competitions of this year’s Four Nations event, which take place in Wales and Ireland later in the year.

Meanwhile, in order to progress within the sport and to continue to represent his nation at future disabled badminton events Moodie is seeking sponsorship and would welcome any opportunities of support. This will enable him to attend special coaching sessions, compete in more competitions and have the right equipment.
